A return to simpler times

I have been so busy lately that I haven't been able to take a moment to relax. But that is about to change.

V is coming to town this weekend! V and I have been friends since high school and lived together in college. We grew apart for a little while after some stupid argument that I barely remember anymore... but now that is behind us and we are going to have so much fun this weekend! She is a teacher back in my home state, good old WV -- so I rarely get to see her anymore. I cannot wait to spend the weekend with her.

I baked cookies. I am going to make little dirt desserts, complete with flower-pot and gummy-worms. And I have the big orange candy bowl stocked. I also have the fridge stocked with the more adult halloween delights ;)

She is bringing her husband, M, so Nick will have a partner in crime this weekend as well. We are going to just relax, enjoy each other's company, probably laugh a lot, and eat eat eat!!!

On that note, I must go and prepare my house for their arrival tomorrow, (or should I say today.)

Bits

Upon reading this book, I was left with a sense of displeasure. I'm one of the first to root for experimentation with poems... I love poems that push meaning right to the boundaries and leave you unsure of whether you should lean to the left or lie on your back. But this book seemed to be far too aware of what it was doing. It seems "too" clever - if I dare say that. It left me wanting more.

I bought my wedding dress today. It will arrive in January!

Kitsch has a new bed and sleeps in it constantly. And what does he do when he isn't sleeping in it? Why, wrestle with it, of course!

Maybe if I had eyeglasses on, I could find them...

I lost my eyeglasses about two or three months ago and I have no idea where they could have gone. It is really starting to drive me crazy the more I think about it.

We had just moved into the new place and I was starting to get into the habit of wearing my glasses every day. I carried the case in my car, because prior to wearing them regularly, I only wore them while driving... so I would put them on when I got into the car and take them off while getting out. The first place I looked when I realized they were missing was that case and they weren't there.

I then looked on all the surfaces next to the places I lay down. So the coffee table and bookshelves were fair game -- but they weren't there.

Next on the list -- under every surface I would have normally set them on. I figured Kitsch could have knocked them around. But they were not there.

I have since looked under the sofa, in the cushions, behind the books on my bookshelf, in drawers, in all of my purses, in cabinets and on shelves.

They are NOT in this house. Which is really disturbing, because at the time I lost them, Nick and I had stopped eating out completely. The only times we did eat out in that month were at the same place. So, I called that restaurant and they said they had indeed found glasses, but that they were large gold rimmed glasses. Mine are small, black rimmed glasses.

So - now I don't know what to do. I went to see about new glasses, but they are just way too expensive right now.

Tonight I got a little nervous about it all and shook the house a part trying to find them. I looked in all the places I may have missed when I looked earlier. I found $7.32, but I did not find my glasses.

I wish they would just surface. They have to be around here somewhere. They can't have just disappeared.

In other news: We have picked our halloween costumes. And I won't give it away now -- but let me say -- it's exciting. :)

Lookin' to hop on the short line.

McNopoly has gotten the best of me. In the past five or six days, I've eaten at McDonald's four or five times... (that would be - every day but today) and not because I like the food. I, in fact, think it's quite greasy. I LOVE their chicken nuggets - but McNuggets don't come with McNopoly pieces.

So far, Nick and I have several Best Buy Bucks and a lot, a lot of McDonald's game pieces. We are looking for the rare ones...

How great would it be to be able to pay for our wedding, help out our families, pay off our debt, and live comfortably for awhile.

I know, I know... I have a better chance of getting pooped on by a Pterodon than winning McDonald's Monopoly... But I just feel like I should try. So-- wish me luck, the game won't last much longer.

This made me chuckle.

Dear Harvest Moon,

I've never seen you look so beautiful! Even though you nearly scared me to death when I looked up and saw your bright white light. I thought you were someone shining a spotlight into my window.

I couldn't resist going outside at midnight to peep at you through the branches, to take your picture. You looked so pale - almost naked - and so so clean.

What begins in horror will end with something like the sun.

1. Another bird died on our deck today. A mourning dove struck the window and died. It was more gruesome than the goldfinch. We are going to buy stickers for the windows so the birds know not to fly into them.

2. I am sick. Not dangerously sick. Just "no fun" sick. And it's no fun.

3. I can't stop having nightmares. Last night I dreamed that I was in the military and in an explosion... Then I dreamed that my brother died... Then I dreamed that my family members were planning my funeral because they knew I would be dead in a couple days. That's three nightmares in one night... and I've been having at least one a night, every night, for the past week and a half or so.

3. Brick was a horrible movie. It was almost as bad as The Producers, which I couldn't watch all the way through. Brick was like a cross between a 1950's teen tough guy movie and a 1920's gangster mystery (You know the type ... "Just give me the gun, see, and nobody will get hurt, see. Now, I've shaken the tree... let's see what falls out."). I am a huge fan of weird movies - I love weird - but this was just too over the top dramatic.

4. Netflix is a great idea. I can't wait for our next movie.

5. The Sims 2 on PS2 is fun. I used to play it on the computer and lost interest after awhile. The PS2 version is nice because you can play two players at the same time.

6. I bought a cute yellow purse the other day and it is now officially my favorite.

Country Roads

The cruiser made its first long voyage to WV - 327 miles there and 327 miles back. Everything went smoothly... for the most part.

The car itself didn't do anything wrong, however, the trip wasn't without consequence.

1. A huge plastic lid, lying in the middle of the interstate, was run over by a car ahead of me. It then proceeded to fly into the air and strike my windshield. Luckily, no cracks or dings.

2. As I'm pulling out of the driveway I hear a noise. When I get out of the car I realize I have a flat tire. Luckily, it just needed some air - no rhyme or reason for the deflation... but upon filling, it made the trip without anymore problems.

Otherwise, the trip was great. I was able to see my family and Val. We watched Val's wedding video -- and it was so good! I think Nick and I may use their videographer.

----

I'm quite sick. Once I got home I started feeling very achy and stopped up. Return trips from WV always seem to do that to me and I can't figure out why.
