The Return of the Unmotivated Blogger...

Everyone is sick.

At work, it's been spread around like a bad rumor. As a result, I've had weird headaches and occassional nausea for the past week. Nick is sick right now. Needless to say, I haven't felt much like blogging lately.

----

Several days ago, when the weather was in the seventies/eighties, little clusters of crocuses and daffodils began poking through the garden. I was ecstatic to see spring in full force and it even made me feel like moving around... but yesterday the wind came. The wind came with his fat hands and slapped all of the flowers around until they fell over or died.

-----

I have somehow managed to accomplish a little bit, despite my desire to just lay everywhere. I have addressed a lot of the wedding invitations. Now, I wait for stamps. The post offices *yes more than one* around here did not have stamps. Oh, they had your everyday flags and faces... but nothing suitable for a wedding invitation. So, we ordered online and have been waiting for almost a week.

-----

I recently rediscovered my love for a videogame that we retired a while ago. It now eats away at my day.

-----

student typo of the day: "If you want to get anything done in life, you have to know how to push people's bottoms."

("bottoms" should read "buttons") I needed that laugh.

I feel

...like my head is splitting open. I'm on the verge of a migraine, I can feel it walking to the front of my head.

...like writing calligraphy. I just learned it and I'm anxious to put it to use.

...like chicken tonight. Seriously... I think I want to eat some lemon chicken tonight.

Wedding Windows

Well, I've been absent from the land of blog for a while now. Not that I don't have anything to say, I do, in fact, have a lot to say. I've been mildly busy, even though it is spring break, so I'm not teaching right now.

My break started with a bang! My future mother and sisters-in-law threw me a beautiful bridal shower that I can't stop talking about. It was amazing. I walked in the door and found that Ma (which is what I've decided to call Nick's mom) had moved all of her furniture out of the living room and replaced it with little tables and chairs. The room was decorated like a little cafe, and looked amazing. The centerpieces were beautiful and the favors, spectacular. She, with a little help from Pa ;), made lunch for all of the guests. There was spaghetti, which was really good, finger sandwiches, and a lot of little side-dishes. The desserts were also really tasty. I received some very nice gifts. I was very excited to open my fiesta ware. Ours is red. We now have all six place settings and are only waiting on the servingware. Among the other wonderful gifts were a beautiful memory box, in which I can store all my wedding keepsakes, a mixer, some nice glasses, and a beautiful piece of artwork that my brother-in-law drew (it's very nice! He should market these things).

After the bridal shower, I've been doing minor wedding things throughout the break, ie. writing thank-you notes, buying things. The most fun thing I've done though -- learning calligraphy. I've been practicing and practicing, and I think I have finally mastered the art of calligraphy. So I will begin addressing invitations today. I still can't believe how quickly the wedding is approaching.

------

Totally unrelated, we received four huge boxes via UPS yesterday. We just assumed they were wedding gifts, or something we ordered for the reception. No - they were four stained glass window panels. We received them by mistake. So now, we are on a desperate hunt for the rightful owners.

So many

Guests tomorrow. So many guests. My parents will get my bed, my grandma the futon, Brandy the couch, Shea the air mattress, my sister and Nick and myself -- the floor.

-------

So many chores to do. So many papers to grade.

-------

So many girl scout cookies in my cupboard, waiting to be eaten, waiting to be hidden from my guests.

-------

If you are the praying kind, pray for little V-Lo, she has slipped a disk and is in need of our good thoughts and well-wishes.

The mellowest week

This past week, I did not:

1. Go to AWP -- I would really love to attend the conference sometime. I just haven't had the opportunity yet. I hope to go next year, when I'm not so busy planning a wedding, putting together my ms., working, etc. etc.

2. Clean my house -- It's miserable really. I haven't done much of anything in terms of cleaning. I ran the dishwasher and a couple loads of laundry. I let everything else sit.

3. Exercise as much as I should have -- As you may remember from a previous entry, I have begun an exercise regimen. I am supposed to exercise three times a week. This week, I only exercised once, and that wasn't until the end of the week. (I did, however, try to make up for it today by doing two of my exercise segments instead of just one).

This past week, I did:

1. Play a lot of Rainbow Six Vegas -- It's a very well done game. I challenge all the skeptics to give it a shot. (pun intended).

2. Ordered toasting flutes -- The flutes that I really wanted cost $80... but we luckily found another pair that cost half as much.

3. Began picking music for the wedding video -- But we aren't making a lot of progress.

I should feel refreshed, right? Now I just have 80 rough drafts and 40 final drafts to grade by Wednesday morning. :( I'm going to bed.
